On Thursday we attended our second adoption fair in Belmont. It was about a 2 hour drive, but anything we can do to help our chances of finding our children is always worth it. The fair was another opportunity for us to meet different Social Workers, for the children, from different counties. This is always exciting because you are able to have a face to face meeting with a potential Social Worker that could choose to match you with one of their children, but it is also hard because you have to take this opportunity to, unfortunately, try and sell yourself as best you can. At the fair we were in a small conference room with approximately 15 other families, 6 different counties and only an hour to meet all of them, which always makes it hard because there is just never enough time. When you meet with the workers you not only get to present who you are as a family, but you also get to see which children they have available for adoption that month. Even though we were only able to meet with 5 out of the 6 counties, we feel that the day was very productive.
We met with a couple counties that unfortunately did not have children that met our criteria, but we were still able to hopefully make a good impression with them for possible avasilable children that may come up in the future. Then we met with Alameda County, who at first didn't seem to have any children that matched our criteria, but after talking with their Social Worker about one of their available situations our hearts changed. Though we have really been wanting a sibling set, this opportunity was different. We got to hear all about this wonderful 5 year old little boy named Jovan that they had available. As we heard his story something melted my heart and changed our minds to go ahead and apply for him, even though he was a single child and not a sibling set. There was then a county that we were extremely excited to see there and finally get to introduce ourselves to and that was Solano county. This was exciting because we have heard that some times the workers really like it when their prospective adoptive families are close to their county. While we met with Solano's Social Worker, we noticed that he seemed to be pretty excited that we were from Solano county and even better from Rio Vista. This was wonderful since they had 2 sibling sets that matched our criteria. There was an african american sibling set of 3 that were a boy age 6, girl age 3 and boy age 1 and then an african american set of twin girls age 4. After hearing about these sibling sets we decided that we also wanted to apply for them. So after a quick hour long fair, we came out thrilled about the 3 different opportunities that we had the priviledge of applying for.
For a month that we thought was going to be quiet and have no opportunities to wait for, actually came out to be a busy month. We now have 6 possible opportunities we are waiting to hear updates on. So please continue to pray for us that we are matched with our forever children soon.

ReplyDeleteThings at this point are still quiet, no updates as of yet for the children we applied for in June. The wait is killing me this month, but hopefully we will hear something soon. Even though I know Veronica is excellent at her job and keeping us updated, I will be giving her a call tomorrow to check in again. We just have to keep praying that God will bring our babies home soon. Love ya
